Making a pallet wood Christmas tree

Each year, as Christmas approaches, homes are adorned with numerous decorations, among which the Christmas tree remains emblematic to take pride of place in most living rooms. With the enthusiasm for DIY, recycling and respect for the environment, more and more people are looking for alternatives to the cut Nordmann or Spruce fir which will end up on the sidewalk or in a recycling center to make compost . Here is a tutorial on how to make your own pallet wood Christmas tree that can be used for several years.

Materials and materials needed to make a pea tree

For this DIY, you will need some basic material from a wood workshop as well as a clean pallet, collected from a supermarket for example:

palette

1 m threaded rod (ø 7mm)

drill with ø 7mm drill bit

jigsaw

wood file and sandpaper

board about 25 x 25 x 2.5 cm

Stages of making a pallet wood tree

First, and not the most pleasant, you need to dismantle the pallet and remove the remaining nails from the ends, or even the middle, of the slats. To do this, you will need a hammer, a large screwdriver to pry a little and a pincer. Either leave the slats raw, or you sand them: as desired.

Then cut the slats to the desired lengths, each time in 3 copies: 60cm, 55cm, 50cm, 45cm, 40cm, 35cm, 30cm, 25cm, 20cm, 15cm, 10cm, and you will provide around thirty pieces of 5cm which will serve as 'dividers.

File and pass a little sandpaper along the edges of the cut pieces. Make a 7mm hole in the center of each slat.

In the center of the board, make a hole with the drill without crossing completely, then screw the threaded rod into it.

Thread the first 60cm slat on the threaded rod, then insert a 5cm piece, and thus superimpose all the slats up to the shortest. Adjust the end slats to match the precise height of the threaded rod or to let it protrude to place a star on the conical support, for example. Arrange the slats so that they form the roundness and cone of the tree.

Decorate a pallet wood tree

All you have to do is place your pallet wood tree in the place you have chosen for it, then take care of its decoration. Generally, it will be less loaded than a green fir to showcase the stacked wood.

You can hang balls or other suspensions at the ends of the slats or place small figurines or other decorations on them. Hang up a light garland and the operation is complete… unless you forgot to place the gifts at its foot!

Pallet wood tree storage

When the holidays are over, you won't have fir needles littering the ground. All you have to do is remove the decorations and the light garland, then disassemble the tree slat by slat to be able to store it more easily until the following year.
