How to put a shower curtain?  Our advices

How to choose the shower bar?

Depending on the layout of your shower or bathtub, you will not be able to choose just any model of shower bar. There are in fact three models on the market: the straight shower bar between two walls, the angled shower bar and the shower bar without walls.

The shower bar between two walls : this model remains the simplest. It is a straight and extensible bar that stretches or folds according to the distance between the two walls in order to better adapt to it. The advantage of this inexpensive model is that it generally does not require any work; self-locking, it is fixed between the two walls by a system of springs and suction cups. However, if the distance to be covered is long or if you opt for a relatively heavy shower curtain, there are bars that screw into the wall, which are more solid.

The angled shower bar : if your shower is located in a corner of your room, be aware that there are suitable models of bars forming an angle. Like the previous model, most are extendable and attach with a system of suction cups and springs, although screw mounting is also possible. However, if your bar needs to cover a large shower area or a bathtub, it is advisable to provide a reinforcement system to be screwed to the ceiling or to the wall at the elbow, which requires drilling. If this sounds good to you, know that you will have little choice if you want to prevent the bar from falling.

Shower bar without walls : If your shower - or bathtub - is located far from a wall, there are shower bars to be attached to the nearest wall or ceiling to create a complete cabin. These bars are circular or semi-circular and necessarily require screwing.

How to install the shower bar?

The installation of the shower bar is the step that requires the most technique.

Step 1: marking the landmarks

The installation of the bar cannot be improvised, because it will have to support the curtain that you will handle every day. It must therefore be located at the right height. Avoid placing the bar too high, otherwise the handling of the curtain will be difficult, nor too low to avoid the risk of splashing. Ideally, do a test by standing in the shower and assess the correct height. Using a pencil, mark a mark on the wall. The bar is usually located about six feet from the bottom level of the shower pan.

Calculate the distance between the two supporting walls. Stretch the bar between the two. If your model can be cut, add 10cm to the necessary measured length and saw off the rest with a hacksaw.

Step 2: fixing

The fixing of your shower bar then depends on the type of fixing desired, that is to say with suction cups (without drilling) or with screws (with drilling).

If you do not want to drill your wall or if it is not necessary, you can be satisfied with a fixing by suction cups. This avoids the stress of drilling the wall and saves time. However, this system is only suitable for small shower bars and light curtains. Indeed, too much weight or too much pressure on the curtain may cause the device to fall.

Grab your shower bar and slide the rings of your curtain onto it.

Raise the bar to your wall marks and unfold it to the desired length until each side is in contact with the wall.

Tighten the bar well by exerting strong pressure on the suction cups so that they adhere to the two support walls. The internal spring makes it possible to immobilize the bar.

If you have opted for an angled model, you may need to attach a brace bracket to the wall or ceiling at the elbow.

If you turn to wall mounting with screws, you will need to drill the bracket. If this installation seems more restrictive to you, know that it is more solid and durable. It is also essential for long bars and heavy curtains.

Hole your walls with your hammer drill at the level of the wall marks previously drawn.

Place dowels in the drilled holes.

Slip the curtain rings around the bar and screw the bar into the holes.

How to install the shower curtain?

You have done most of the work. All you have to do is fix your shower curtain. The process is simple; it suffices to fix the eyelets of the curtain to the rings previously slipped on the bar. That's it !

How to choose the right shower curtain?

There are many types of shower curtains. Beyond the aesthetics, it is especially on the material that we want to draw your attention.

Plastic shower curtains are the most economical. However, their material is not very pleasant on contact and they tend to tarnish quickly on contact with water. In addition, over time, molds take hold in the lower part. However, this type of curtain cannot be washed in the washing machine.

Fabric shower curtains are a bit more expensive, but of better quality. Choose coated models that are nice, non-sticky and easy to maintain. Machine washable at low temperature, they are easier to maintain.
